How to Choose an Oral-Health Supplement
A six-step checklist for comparing claims, labels, evidence, safety and value.
1. Define your goal
A vague goal produces a vague purchase. Decide whether you are looking for general nutrition, a probiotic, a sugar substitute or another clearly defined category.
2. Read the entire label
Check ingredients, amounts, allergens, serving size and warnings.
3. Match evidence to the actual product
Ask whether studies involve the same ingredient, dose and delivery method.
4. Screen disease claims
Be skeptical when supplement marketing promises to cure, prevent or treat dental disease.
5. Compare total cost
Use cost per serving rather than bottle price alone.
6. Know when not to self-treat
Pain, swelling, trauma, infection signs or persistent gum problems require professional evaluation.
