Supplements vs Oral Care: What Each Can and Cannot Do

Supplements can be adjuncts; they do not replace brushing, interdental cleaning, fluoride guidance or dental treatment.

Different tools solve different problems

Toothbrushing and interdental cleaning physically disrupt plaque. Fluoride can help protect enamel. Professional dentistry diagnoses and treats disease. A supplement, by contrast, is generally consumed for nutritional or wellness support.

The substitution error

The most problematic marketing occurs when an adjunct is framed as a replacement for proven care. If a product tells you to stop or avoid normal dental care, that is a major red flag.

A better model

Use supplements only when their intended role is clear, the formula is transparent, and they complement an evidence-based routine.
